Say goodbye to cliques, set schedules, and mandatory classes, and say hello to choice and independence

College life is a big transition from school life. We go through a lot of changes when we enter college. Our schools were a safe place where we had grown up and spent half our lives. The transition to college is so sudden that you’re no longer protected by your teachers and friends of my school time.College life poses a lot of challenges in front of me.I am  now in a place that have a full of unfamiliar faces where you need to mingle in. It teaches me to socialize and form opinions of our own. In college, students learn their free will and they go on to become more confident and composed. In school life, we were always dependant on our friends or teachers. College life teaches us to be independent. It makes us stronger and teaches us to fight our own battles. It also makes us serious about our careers. We make decisions that will affect our future all by ourselves, as in school life our parents did it for us.Additionally, in schools, we viewed our teachers as our mentors and sometimes even parents. We respected them and kept a distance. However, in college life, the teacher-student relationship becomes a bit informal. They become more or less like our friends and we share our troubles and happiness with them as we did with our friends.

I am so grateful for the experience I had and what I was taught through it – literally and academically

I was also shown the importance of balance in one’s life. I learned what really matters to me as a person – SPOILER ALERT: academics is not everything. While I still believe school is incredibly important, there are other things that matter to me, too – spending time with my family, hanging out with friends, attending church and growing in my faith, pursuing my hobbies and interests, writing for this blog, working at Chick-fil-A, exploring career opportunities for the future, discovering what mark I want to leave on the world – the list goes on. Balance matters.

See that all I want is for you to see me so I can know you and you can know me

Behavior is a message. When a child is being disrespectful, disruptive, rude, or otherwise not the typical kid you know, they’re telling you something. In this environment, in which we have been crisis schooling, remote, hybrid, physically distanced, masked, barriered, pool noodle-spaced, and disconnected, behavior is a big Vegas style sign with neon flashing lights.

This first post will go over my path towards instructional technology, and goals I have for my first semester in the Instructional Systems Technology graduate certificate program from Indiana University Bloomington

Since the COVID 19 pandemic began in 2020, I saw my students struggle with online learning and the sharp transition in their academic and personal lives. I also saw my colleagues shift to a more virtual work environment, with success and challenge. It made me want to learn more about the ways my students were learning through technology, and hopefully transition to a career in instructional design or educational technology someday. I love working in education, and I want to be able to help people learn and teach better. It has become very clear this past year that online learning isn’t going away, and we need people who can help students and educators use technology effectively to keep folks moving forward with their education.

If only all teachers are equipped with the right knowledge on how to effectively teach, guide, and conduct assessments, the learning environment for each student would be so much better

With the knowledge I gained from this course, I would definitely bear all of what I have learned in heart and mind as I want my future students to experience holistic learning in my classes. I don’t want to commit the same mistakes that my teachers before have unintentionally done; I want to do my best in this career and vocation to make my students love learning. I want them to love learning or take interest in what I teach in hopes that someday they will impart the knowledge I have passed down to them. I aspire to be the teacher that will not make their school life difficult but rather make it bearable and enjoyable so they can maximize their abilities and potentials in my classes.

There are not enough people willing to put their health on the line for what are essentially poverty wages for a family of four or more, to care for and possibly educate other peoples’ children as substitute teachers

Our economy shut down when schools shut down. It became more visible how schools serve as community centers for social services including access to food, to child care, to health services, along with their primary mission of leading students to learn to read, write, solve mathematical problems, investigate like scientists and to become our future citizens.
